“What Entertains You Enters You.”

I am so appreciative of the truth shared by Francis Frangipane in his weekly blogpost articles. A simply stated principle he stated is so clear that I must share it with you. Pastor Frangipane dropped this one-liner: “You see, what entertains us actually enters us.”

His example: “If you are entertained by pornography or sexual fantasy, perverse or corrupting thoughts and habits, you are opening your soul to hell.” Check out the whole article by clicking here: https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?zx=micapra8qojq#sent/FMfcgxwLtQSPvkGqqlHDvmnglgJnwLrN

One the positive side, Jesus said, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.” Revelation 3:20 ESV. If we entertain His sweet voice and open our heart to Him, He will accept our invitation to enter our hearts and fellowship with us. We are entertaining the Kingdom of Light that has entered us.

Now, on the other hand, there are other knocks at the door of our hearts, souls, minds, and emotions. There are other voices requesting to be entertained. They come from the Kingdom of Darkness, and their variety is extensive. They come from the world, the flesh, and the devil. If we cave in to allow ourselves to entertain these voices, what enters us will be diabolical. Demonic voices can influence the thoughts of a man, even a carnal Christian, if entertained.

You may ask, “What do you mean? What specifically opens the door to the wrong voices?” Well, walk through Paul’s list of things which attract and capture us in our undisciplined flesh:

Galatians 5:19-22. 19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

You have a choice what you entertain, or let’s entertain your thoughts. You can determine which voices you will allow to capture your attention that which awakens the flesh or that which awakens the spirit. Here is how we can know this choice. Paul admonishes the Philippian Christians to engage their minds and hearts with this positive, godly list of inputs:

Philippians 4:8-9. 8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.9 The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

When I sit down with some free time at the internet, what do I tend to drift toward? Wrangling news, unsolicited ads, YouTube suggestions provided by their algorithm because of your previous searches, Netflix, Amazon Prime, or something else to “entertain” your disquieted, fatigued soul.

And the Spirit of God may suggest quietly to you a verse, an idea, a question to be explored, a worship site to flood your heart with praise and intimacy with God. Or maybe you will entertain a prompting to make a call, write a letter, an email, a text of encouragement to someone you love. Maybe a good book, or especially the “Good Book,” to read with openness and fascination. You and I have other choices.

“WHAT ENTERTAINS US, ENTERS US.” Why not write that on a stick note and put it on your monitor.
