Thessalonians 3:3. But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.
Like many of you, I so value the daily online Bible verse that YouTube provides each morning. Recently, I clicked on their email and found the verse above. So, I sat back, look up, and began to enjoy fellowship over this declared promise of God. I had recently experienced some disquieting whispers that I now know were from the enemy. But if I’m not alert, I can mistake these “impressions” as my own doubts.
Then, here comes this precious promise of a God. He is so faithful. I jotted down what I believe the Lord began to fill my heart to consider. I hope my rough journal entry here will be a blessing to you today:
🡺 I don’t have to beg God to do what He promised to do. I thank Him that all my life He has given me faith in the face of satanic whispers of doubt. My faith is strengthened by the exercise. I pray as instructed by Jesus, “Lead me not into temptation, but deliver me from the evil one.” And I am confident that He will.
🡺 Regarding His promises, I ask Him, but I need not beg. God is not reluctant. His gives me His word in His Word. He stands behind every word He has uttered. He loves to be trusted.
🡺 Temptation to doubt is my opportunity to embrace and demonstrate my faith in the Word of God. 🡺 Since we matter to God, we matter to God’s enemy. The battle validates our kinship to Christ.
Hebrews 2:17-18. 17 Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.
Hebrews 4:14-16. 14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. 16 Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
🡺 God’s promises form the basis for our demonstrating faith that takes action in light of the sure outcome.
2 Corinthians 7:1 ESV. Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.
2 Corinthians 1:18-21 ESV. 18 As surely as God is faithful, our word to you has not been “Yes” and “No.” 19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, whom we proclaimed among you, Silvanus and Timothy and I, was not “Yes” and “No,” but in him it is always “Yes.” 20 For all the promises of God find their “Yes” in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our “Amen” to God for his glory.
🡺 Try it for yourself. Here is a promise for each of us believers to receive in faith. No need to beg God.
John 14:15-17 ESV. 15 "If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.”
So, instead of begging, try thanking, asking, embracing, rejoicing, welcoming, trusting, or claiming. You can add to this list of responses as you enjoy being prompted by the Spirit to express an active faith.
